WSAN4CIP will validate the feasibility of its results with two demonstrators:

DEMONSTRATOR #1 - Power Distribution
The focus of the first demonstrator is on power distribution in Portugal. The demonstrator will be performed together with project partner Energias de Portugal Distribuição – EDP, one of the major national energy distribution companies in Portugal.

DEMONSTRATOR #2 - Water Distribution
The focus of the second demonstrator is on water distribution in Portugal. The demonstrator will be performed together with project partner Frankfurter Wasser- und Abwassergesellschaft – FWA, a regional drinking water and waste water management company in Germany.

Rationale
The WSAN4CIP results are aimed to have a high positive impact on the security of critical infrastructures in Europe. In order to validate and illustrate the expected impacts, to the consortium has chosen two application areas, which could directly benefit from the project results.

The WSAN4CIP results can be applied in the protection of different types of critical infrastructures. The project will demonstrate the WSAN4CIP capabilities in the energy and drinking water distribution area. This will be done rather through prototypes than complete systems. At the application level, WSAN4CIP will extend support to applications for efficient management and optimal decision making in energy and drinking water distribution networks.

By means of an awareness strategy, and the project will promote more effective protection for both types of distribution networks. The application areas have been chosen for the experiments because of their rather hostile environmental conditions. In case of the energy distribution networks,  th conditions are challenging because of potential electromagnetic interference in the operation of wireless networks . The analysis of the case studies will allow conclusions regarding the robustness of operation in this respect.
